Wines That Pair With Cinco De Mayo!

Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, is a holiday that celebrates an important moment in history during the Franco-Mexican War. The date of May 5th, 1862, commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla and has since evolved into a yearly tradition of remembrance and pride.

In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated mainly in the state of Puebla with recreations of the battle, military parades, and other festive activities. In Canada, it’s a time to learn and rejoice in Latin American culture as we enjoy sumptuous Mexican cuisine.

If you’re looking to host a get-together for the occasion, be sure to enjoy plenty of delicious and flavourful dishes, including tacos, mole poblano, tamales, carnitas, and guacamole. For a cocktail pairing, a classic margarita is a must!

For fresh and zesty, try a White Wine Margarita with freshly squeezed lime, orange juice, triple sec, simple syrup, and white wine. We recommend our Cru International Ontario Sauvignon Blanc which has bold herbal tones and citrus flavours. If you prefer chilled white wine by the glass, our Cru International South Africa Chenin Blanc has a subtle floral bouquet and hints of green apple – an excellent choice!

For a sweeter twist on a margarita, try a berry forward version using our Orchard Breezin’ Strawberry Sensation. A light wine, with sweet aromas of fresh-picked strawberries, honey, and tropical fruit flavours. If you’re looking to embrace rosé season, our Orchard Breezin’ Rocking Raspberry Rosé is fantastic and offers mouth-watering flavours of ripe raspberries blended with refreshing roses.

Toast with a wine margarita as you celebrate Cinco de Mayo this month!
