Celebrate the Icewine Festival
Here we are in the middle of winter season and for those of us who would rather be basking in warm sunshine, we find every reason we can to celebrate the Canadian cold. Well look no further than Icewine! January marks the season of the Icewine festival in the Niagara region which runs from January 12 to January 28, and in celebration here are 5 great ideas for using this decadent treat!
1.Take your Hot Chocolate to the next level with Cabernet Franc. Add an ounce to your favourite hot chocolate recipe and enjoy a rich, adult take on classic hot chocolate.
2. Make your Sparkling wine even more special by adding an ounce of Icewine to your favourite bubbly!
3. Be a master mixologist and make an icewine martini by shaking an ounce of Icewine with an ounce of Vodka, strain into a chilled Martini glass, top with a splash of club soda and serve garnished with a frozen grape!
4. Looking for a light dessert for your next dinner party? Top fresh fruit with homemade Ice Wine sabayon. Sabayon is an Italian dessert, or sometimes a beverage, made with egg yolks, sugar, and sweet wine. We have a recipe that is so easy and delicious! Get it by clicking here.
5. Icewine is more than just a dessert wine. Use it instead of honey or sweetener in your favorite vinaigrette recipe for a show stopping salad! Here is a great recipe to try out, courtesy of Inniskillin Wines.
Craft your very own Icewine style wine using RJS Craft Winemaking Vidal, Riesling, or Cabernet Franc Style Dessert Wine. And remember if you don’t use up the whole bottle, this style of wine is higher in residual sugar meaning it will keep for up to 6 weeks sealed in the refrigerator!
Cheers to winter!
