Muscat

The Grape

The Muscat grape may be one of the older cultivated varieties in the world. Muscat grapes typically have low acidity levels and the wines are not suited for aging. Muscat’s versatility makes it an attractive option for winemakers. Muscat features a distinctive grapey aroma and .may be produced as a dry, medium, sweet, sparkling or even dessert wine. It is also found as a table grape around the world.

The Wines

Moscato is a popular wine among new wine lovers because of its perfume-like fragrance, light body and in some cases slight effervescence (frizzante). Muscat wines can vary in colour from white, to yellow, to pink. Muscats’ aromas include orange blossom, honeysuckle, citrus and ripe peach. You can expect a fruit forward palate that ranges from semi sweet to sweet and medium acidity.

The Occasions

If you like to brunch, then Muscat is the wine for you. Its lighter style is perfect for your mid-day meal. Because it’s off dry or even sweet, it perfectly complements fruit based dishes like blueberry pancakes, apple pie or peach cobbler. The acidity in a Muscat can cut through brunch favourites like omelets and crispy strips of bacon.
