Premium Dessert Wine

The Grape

Our premium dessert wine is crafted in the style of a ruby Port, which is a type of fortified, usually, sweet wine from Portugal. Port is usually produced from a blend of grapes grown and processed in the Douro region of Portugal, the most desirable grape being Touriga Nacional. This style of wine received its name, “port”, in the late 17th century, after the city of Porto, located at the mouth of the Douro River, where much of the product was sent to be exported to other countries in Europe.

The Wines

Dessert wines crafted in the style of a ruby Port are deep red in colour with bold aromas and flavours of black cherries and blackberries.   The subtle sweetness is well-balanced with a bright, pleasing acidity, with only the intense fruit flavours lingering on the palate. The “fruit-forward” characteristic of this style of dessert wine makes it ideal for sipping slowly. It can even be served slightly chilled, on the rocks or in cocktails.

The Occasions

A dessert as rich and flavourful as the wine is a good choice for pairing with this ruby red dessert wine. The general rule is the wine should be sweeter than the food with which it is served.  A dark chocolate cake is an easy match for this style of wine.  Or, skip the dessert altogether as our Premium Dessert Wine is a dessert on its own.
