Grenache Syrah
The Grape
Grenache or Garnacha is a red wine grape variety that is said to have originated in Spain and is one of the most widely planted wine grapes in the world. Syrah, its perfect blending partner, is originally from Southern France. Because they need hot, dry conditions, both Grenache and Syrah only thrive in certain climates. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape winemaking region in the south of France grows Grenache and Syrah to make its famous wines, and our Vieux Château du Roi wines are made in the same style.
The Wines
A wine made from a blend of Grenache Syrah is ideal for cold weather days. After a day out on the slopes or in an arena, pull out a bottle of Grenache Syrah and serve it with a hearty beef stew or a lamb shank braised in a red wine sauce. The tannins in the Syrah will hold up to the fat and protein in the meat.
