Verdicchio

The Grape

Grown in the hillsides of northern-central and western Marche, Italy, the Verdicchio grape is a white wine grape variety that produces still and sparkling wines. The name Verdicchio is derived from “verde” in Italian which means green and refers to the slight green-yellowish hue that Verdicchio wines can have. This grape is versatile, and is used for easy drinking table wines and age-worthy wines.

The Wines

Verdicchio wines are often well structured with citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit on the palate. Bitter notes can be found in younger Verdicchios, whereas aged Verdicchios tend to have richer sweet honey notes. Pale and straw-coloured, this wine offers a good acidic balance and subtle crisp, clean white fruit flavours and aromas with a slight bitter note on the finish.

The Occasions

Don’t stop the Italian experience at the wine; make a full-fledged meal out of it! Venture off to your “Little Italy” in the city or prepare a typical Italian feast yourself. Verdicchio pairs very well with pasta carbonera, three cheese pizza topped with spicy sausage or even tiramisu.
